The Google Pixel Watch 4 might be the best smartwatch for Android users right now, but the Pixel Watch 5 should be released later this year, and it could be a hint of an upgrade.
We’re still months away from a potential announcement, but based on all the leaks, rumors and insider reports so far, here’s what I’ve come up with. think Here’s what we know about the Google Pixel Watch 5, including potential features and tech updates, design changes, and AI advancements.
Google Pixel Watch 5: Price estimates and release date
Google usually makes smartwatch product announcements every year in August, and I suspect this year will be more of the same. Last year, the Pixel Watch 4 launched alongside the Pixel 10 series of smartphones on August 20, with units shipping later in October.
The article continues below
There’s no word on Google’s planned summer event, but we’ll update this story as soon as it’s announced. However, there is a high possibility that the Pixel Watch 5 will be announced together with the Google Pixel 11 series of smartphones. Regarding the price, I hope that the Pixel Watch 5 will keep its starting price of $349 for the smaller, non-mobile model.
Google Pixel Watch 5: Possible innovations

An internal report, first covered by Android Authority, suggests that Google is moving away from Qualcomm chips for the next-gen Pixel Watch 5, in favor of an in-house built Google Tensor chip. There are also rumors of a new multicore processor. Combined, these two potential improvements will result in support for advanced features of the device’s AI.
Pixel Watch 4 is already my favorite smartwatch for AI features, thanks to Google’s Gemini AI assistant, which can be said to use a good version of Raise to Speak gesture control.
Increasing productivity and efficiency could also mean new health tracking tools within the Fitbit app. In particular, according to a patent filed by Google and first seen by Gadgetsandwearables, advanced heart tracking devices, including weight monitoring, and even blood pressure monitoring, could make an appearance on the Pixel 5.

When it comes to the latter, the question is, does this potentially powerful device need to be calibrated with an old-school blood pressure cuff before use, like the best Samsung Galaxy Watches, or will it be a standalone device?
Alternatively, the blood pressure monitor will likely work like Apple’s Hypertension Alerts, and instead of providing numbers, will be designed to alert you if/when symptoms of high blood pressure are detected.
Meanwhile, arterial stiffness testing can provide valuable information about how well a user’s cardiovascular system is working. In short, increased stiffness is a well-known indicator of heart failure and a possible indicator of chronic problems later in life.
Google Pixel Watch 5: Design and display rumors

At this point, rumors about the design of the Pixel Watch 5 are limited. However, it seems more likely that Google will stick to the same round design as its predecessor, with two models, 41mm and 45mm, available.
Another improvement I would like to see is a move away from Gorilla Glass in favor of sapphire crystal glass for added durability and shatter resistance.
Google has increased the maximum brightness of several previous generations of the Pixel Watch by 1,000 nits at a time. The current Pixel Watch 4 operates at an incredible 3,000 nits, just like the Galaxy Watch 8 and Apple Watch Ultra 3. However, if tradition continues, we could see the spec increased to an eye-melting 4,000 nits.
Finally, like the Pixel Watch 4, there’s a good chance that Google will reduce the bezel even further on the Pixel Watch 5, leading to a very small increase in screen real estate.
Google Pixel Watch 5: Outlook

From now on, it seems that the Google Pixel Watch 5 will look and be the same price as the Pixel Watch 4. However, under the hood, major improvements, from increased processing power, new AI tools, advanced technology to track heart health, and improved energy efficiency, can all be provided.
What potential new features are you most hoping for when the Pixel Watch 5 launches? Let me know in the comments below.
