I love my Luna Ring Gen 2 smart ring – I wear it every day based on my sleep, certain exercise levels, and just because I like how the black band looks on my left ring finger. Recently, I picked up the Samsung Galaxy Watch8 Classic, and boy, is it in a whole different league.
I will still wear my smart ring, but the smart watch has become an essential part of my everyday wardrobe.
Where do I start with the Galaxy Watch8 Classic?
The first solution of this smartwatch is its size. With a 46mm screen, it’s easy to read the watch face at a glance, review notifications (even write and send text replies from the watch), and interact with its various health and fitness apps.
Being bigger means that the Classic is also a bit bulky – with its rotating bezel it adds a bit of bulk again, albeit a useful controller – and this size took a bit of getting used to, especially when I started sleeping with the Watch8 Classic for sleep tracking. Fortunately, it never felt uncomfortable to wear, and other than that first night in my first two weeks, I wasn’t bothered by this watch at all in bed.
The design is also excellent. The Classic is a smartwatch by default but works like a classic watch, too. I recently went for a suit for my wedding later this year, and the Watch8 Classic didn’t look out of place when I was trying on suits and waistcoats – in fact, it looked at home as part of an ensemble.
Regardless of how it looks, this item is very useful for tracking health and fitness. I’m familiar with the running trainer – I’ve completed my test and my first course with more to come – and I love how easy it is to track my workouts. I just press the big side button and move to whatever I’m about to do.
If I forget to do this manually, I also find the Watch8 Classic is great for seeing what I’m doing, like taking my evening walks.
When it comes to health, information is more important than my smart circle, but the big thing is that finding information is easier. I get it all on my watch – reducing the risk of being distracted by my smartphone, which would happen if I want to check my smart ring device – or (if my smartphone is there) I can see important metrics like my sleep data in my Now Summary.
This requires you to have a Samsung phone, and it’s good to have these notes next to my calendar and other Short Now notes, which is a great way to get me ready for the day.
Even the battery – which I was worried would feel too short – is good. Based on my usage, the Galaxy Watch8 Classic lasts over 24 hours, and I keep it topped up by charging it when I get ready in the morning (shower, dress and eat breakfast). At this point, it’s always fully functional, so I’m ready to tackle the day.
I still love my smartwatch, but the Watch8 Classic has really impressed me – and I’m not sure I can stop using a smartwatch now. The Classic is more capable than the basic trackers I’m used to, and solves a few problems I recently had with my Luna Ring.
So while it’s on sale, I’ll seriously consider picking it up. We’re expecting the new Watch9 devices later this year, so there’s a reason to wait, but if you’re dying to get your hands on the Galaxy Watch8 Classic soon, this deal is great.
